Equity in Gifted Education

In June 2003, the Texas Education Agency (TEA) convened a task force for the purpose of examining trends and practices in Gifted and Talented (G/T) programs in Texas. Specifically, this group focused on patterns and trends with regards to identifying students from different racial/ethnic, socioeconomic, and cultural groups who are underrepresented in these programs. As a result of the task force’s findings, Regional Education Service Center XIII (Region 13) and TEA designed a G/T Equity Toolkit to provide educators with the tools and understanding they need to ensure equitable access to gifted services among all populations in Texas. RFL worked with Region 13 to develop the training materials for this toolkit. Additionally, RFL developed the branding/identity and the website that houses this project.
